The White Power. The White PowerWhite power is a collective term used to describe white racial movement as they dominate almost every thing in the United States of America. This can be illustrated by looking at Ku Klux Klan, the name given to three different ancient and current supreme organizations in the United States. These clans are said to have boomed in different times (Leeper, 2000) .For example, the first Klan boomed in the years 1860s and became in existence in the 1870s and it was only available on the southern parts with their white costumes consisting of makes and robes. The second Klan came into existence in the early and mid 1920s while the third was known after the famous Second World War with their unforgettable records of practicing terrorism, a tactic that is believed to have been boosted by the second KKK. History holds that, during the reconstruction of Radical republican, the first Klan sought to restore superiority by engaging in criminal acts characterized by murder and so much violence against the blacks and white Republicans. This led the Federal government to put force acts, which advocated for the Klan prosecution (Leeper, 2000). The second Klan is said to be very different from the first Klan as it was a formal organization with its activities practiced country wide. This Klan taught about clean politics and advocated for Unity in American states. One of the biggest criticisms to this Klan is the fact that, some local groups went to extremes of attacking civilian houses and did other unnecessary violence. When you compare the history of these Klan’s you find that, the third Klan caused a very high destruction ,as it is believed to be responsible for the historic bombing of Birmingham 16th street Baptist church, that claimed lives of   so many civil rights workers and innocent children(Leeper,2000). Today many people believe that, the KKK is a rebellious organization as declared in 1999 by the city council of Charleston, in southern Carolina and the unforgettable campaigns made by the University of Louisville professor in the year 2004 to have the Klan declared illegal organization, so that it may be abolished from the campus. Currently the Klan is said to have so many members after the 2008 election of President Obama.The main objectives of the current membership is based on rising issues of illegal immigrants and increase of urban crimes.

Name of student Essay The siblings Rosa and Enrique cannot be strictly called emigrants or refugees because of the rather peculiar nature of their emigration. They are emigrants because they wish to have a better life far away from their village where they were peasant farmers. They possibly may be called refugees because they had to leave their village to spare their lives. For the sake of proper designation by the authorities, they could be called refugees as they are more that than just emigrants. . Their journey to the north was fraught with difficulties at every turn. At first they met with a coyote Jaime, who appeared to be kind to them and actually took them across the border only to try to rob them when he thought their guard was down. They were apprehended by the border authorities and were sent back to Tijuana where they failed to convince authorities that they were Mexicans. On getting to Tijuana, they had no source of income and Rosa had to resort to stealing in order to feed herself. Eventually they met the coyote who was able to take them to the US, they had to sell their mothers chain which probably was the last thing they had to remind them of her and symbolically they parted with the last thing that linked them with their village. To get to the US, they had to go through a sewer pipe that was rat infested in almost total darkness for hours on end that was a horrible experience. It was not all bad anyway, not long after they left their village they tried to stow inside a truck, and the friendly driver asked them to join him in front on the drive to Oaxaca. Besides, he gave them a crash course for being Mexicans or at least coming of as ones. That proved to be a very valuable lesson later on. They met one person who helped them to rent out an apartment when they got to California, and the same person presented Enrique a job offer in Chicago. At the same time, Rosa met a nice lady Nacha who helped her by giving advice and the basic notions about the life in the US as an undocumented immigrant. In order not to have great problems they began taking English classes and proved to be good students, they were hard orking and did not expect that anything could happen to them. This movie evokes sympathetic feelings to undocumented emigrants, having been given a behind the scenes look into their stories. Granted that all of them might not have such dramatic stories in their lives, it is worth noting that in spite of the legality or otherwise of their status under it all, they are just regular people with hopes dreams and aspirations who just purs ue a better life or who are actually running away from a real imminent threat to their lives. And this situation they find themselves in puts them in a very vulnerable state where they can be exploited and victimized by people who have real or imagined issues with their stay in the US. Watching this movie has softened my opinion of immigrants. They may not have the correct documentation, but they deserve a chance to improve their lives.

Ethical and Social Concerns in Global Business Essay

The need of ethics in the business world is superlative and global as new trends and issues arise daily which may create an important burden to business entities and end-consumers. There is therefore a need for proper ethical behavior in organizations for smooth operations within the business entities. Morf (1999:265) believes: †Ethics is the moral principle that individuals inject into their decision-making process and that helps temper the last outcome to conform to the norms of their society. † Again, ethical principles have the very profound function of making behavior very predictable (Mahdavi, 2003). Businesses need to come to grips with the legal and moral atmosphere in which they operate. The various ethical issues in global business that have imparted variously in the Kenyan Economy include the following: 1) Corruption and bribery; corruption and bribery is one of the menace that has seen Kenya lag behind in terms of development. It is often claimed that in 1963, when Kenya acquired its independence from the colonial rule, it was at par with countries like South Korea, Malaysia, and Singapore among others, in terms of development. However, the above mentioned countries have grown to be giant economies while Kenya is still struggling at grassroots with take-off strategies. Kenya has had major scandals of corruption which include The Goldenberg scandal, The Anglo leasing among others, which involved ‘white elephant’ projects that looted the government of major funds. The unethical act is still rampant in the country even after the establishment of the Kenya Anti-corruption Commission to help curb the vice. ) Unfair Pricing; This includes the unfair differential pricing, improper invoicing –where the buyer requests for a price other than the actual price paid, pricing to outdo local competition, dumping commodities at prices below the home country prices and pricing practices that are permitted in the host country but against the law in the home country such (e. g. price fixing agreements). Unfair pricing is notable in the Kenyan economy where the prices of oil are inflated by the oil selling companies. The presence of the cheap ‘mitumba’ clothes in Kenya have contributed among other things to the death of the textile industry in Kenya which equally leads to unemployment oflabour and reduced taxes for the government. 3) Illegal/immoral activities in the host country; practices such as pollution of the environment, the maintenance of unsafe working conditions, the violation of intellectual rights laws in product/technology copying where the protection of patents, trademarks and copyrights is at stake. This has in particular affected to a degree the Kenyan music industry where pirating is rampant. 4) Involvement in political affairs; where political personnel get actively engaged in a country’s normal marketing operations and engage in unjust practices such as illegal technology transfers. The Kenyan government has recently handled claims where top political officers are reported to have liaised with other governments to defraud the state. These include the sale of maize to Sudan and the purchase of government land at china. ) Questionable commissions paid to channel members; where unreasonably high commissions are paid to sales agents, middlemen, consultants and import officials as fees, there is a reason to raise eyebrows. This is an unethical practice that is present especially in the less developed and developing countries. In Kenya, import officers are known as perpetrators to this menace. 6) Dumping; I since considered dumping as an unethical practice of its own since it is present in Kenya. Dumping is where substandard products are sold cheaply to a country where the use of the product in the manufacturing country is outlawed, used for other specified purposes or declared unfit for human consumption. For instance, The purchase of contaminated maize recently by the Kenya government from South Africa, is one of the cases that identifies Kenya as one of the terminals of dumped goods among other things which include the dominance of vague China made goods in the Kenyan market. This includes hardware materials, home appliances and the recently noted turnover of mobile phones which hardly last for a month.

Unity, Faith and Discipline Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan gave us three golden principles. They are Unity, Faith and Discipline. In his life he followed these principles and got Pakistan. Quaid-e-Azam once said, â€Å"The success of our achievement will depend upon our Unity, Faith and Discipline. † In this short sentence Quaid-e-Azam has given us the guide line to make Pakistan a success. If we follow these principles in our individual, social and political life, we can make Pakistan very powerful.Unfortunately, we have not paid much attention to these guiding principles. Unity is the first principle given by Quaid-e-Azam. It means co-operation with one another. Unity gives nation strength to face its enemies. Pakistan appeared on the map of the world on August 14, 1947. This miracle was achieved through the unity of the Muslims. In Islam all the Muslims are brethren to each other. In many of Quaid-e-Azam's speeches, he has stressed on unity and ad vised to be united in our work for the country. Discipline is the second principle. It means following certain principles.Discipline also means mental or moral training. By this principle Quaid-e-Azam means training to obedience and order. Through this principle Quaid-e-Azam united the Muslims of India into a disciplined organization. With the help of discipline he created unity among them. No civilized society can exist and progress without discipline. Islam also lays stress on discipline. Five times prayers, one month's fasting and annual pilgrimage to Makah are various forms of discipline. Without discipline, our energies are scattered and we can make no progress.Faith is third principle of progress. This is the centre principle or ideology. It can create unity and discipline in people. In Islam, faith in Allah and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is the basis of the Muslim community. It also means in us. The salaries paid to the account executives were below the industry standards that did little to encourage commitment. The bonus system was also discriminatory in that it was based on core products, whereas the acquired company operated under geographical division. Rather than consult, the senior management assumed almost everything. A situation like this demor alizes employees making them feel unimportant and less valuable. As such, they lack job satisfaction which lowers their commitment to the organization. Unsatisfied employees will always want to quit. Whereas Datasil Inc. employees have been given autonomy (freedom, independence, and discretion to individuals performing the work), those at Amtransport have not the slightest idea of what freedom tastes like. Responsibilities are heaped onto them without caring to listen to their views. The new employees inherited from the acquired organization are not even inducted into the operations of the parent company. They are sent into the field to sell products they are not even familiar with. There seems to be division among workers as the original Amtransport workers won’t share their secrets with the newly acquired account executives. Jobs at Amtransport lack key ingredients such as growth need strength, knowledge, and skills. Motivation Motivation is a set of energetic forces, b oth intrinsic and extrinsic, to the employee; it initiates work related effort, and determines direction, intensity and persistence. Herzberg’s Motivation-Hygiene Theory refers to terms such as the working conditions and salary. The theory states that when working conditions and salary are inadequate, employees tend to be dissatisfied. Improving on these factors alone does not however raise job satisfaction. According to Herzberg, achievement, recognition and responsibility tended to be associated with satisfaction. When people succeeded in their jobs, they attributed the characteristics to themselves. Motivation has the tendency to increase competency. Very difficult goals are demotivating in a certain way. The motivational force emanating from expectancy is a powerful motivational variable for job performance. Datasil Inc. management created a very high expectancy in their employees-the promise of pay increase, improved work stations, better communication methods, and great er autonomy and so on. These factors acted to increase their level of motivation which, in turn, precipitated to the positive attitude shown during the meeting. The new sales commission new employees showed lack of motivation due to poor working conditions and inadequate bonus system. According to Herzberg, these two factors are very likely to result into dissatisfaction in employees. Recommendations To create job satisfaction, the senior management at Amtransport should consider reviewing the bonus system to foster equal chances. The new employees should be offered training to match their co-workers who are already far much ahead. Salaries should also be harmonized to reflect trends in the market. To increase commitment, the managers should consider installing proper supervision measures so that the correct picture of the happening on the ground is reflected. Consultat ions are an important part of any decision making process; the managers should consider consulting with the employees to avoid losing valuable employees. Team building programs are essential if co-worker satisfaction is to be achieved in Amtransport. The company (Amtransport) should consider lateral communication to improve on information dissemination. The management at Amtransport should solicit feedback from employees about how their assignments can be made more satisfying.

The Other Reichs Before Hitler's Third The German word reich means empire, although it can also be translated as government. In 1930s Germany, the Nazi party identified their rule as a Third Reich and, in doing so, gave English speakers around the world a wholly negative connotation to the word. Some people are surprised to find that the concept, and use, of three reichs is not a solely Nazi idea, but a common component of German historiography. This misconception stems from the use of Reich as a totalitarian nightmare, and not as an empire.  As you can tell, there were two reichs before Hitler made his third, but you might see reference to a fourth. The First Reich: The Holy Roman Empire (800/962 - 1806) Although the name dates to the twelfth-century reign of Frederick Barbarossa, the Holy Roman Empire had its origins over 300 years earlier. In 800 AD, Charlemagne was crowned emperor of a territory which covered much of western and central Europe; this created an institution that would remain, in one form or another, for over a thousand years. The Empire was reinvigorated by Otto I in the tenth century, and his imperial coronation in 962 has also been used to define the start of both the Holy Roman Empire and the First Reich. By this stage, Charlemagnes empire had been divided, and the remainder was based around a set of core territories occupying much the same area as modern Germany. The geography, politics, and strength of this empire continued to fluctuate massively over the next eight hundred years but the imperial ideal, and the German heartland, remained. In 1806, the Empire was abolished by the then Emperor Francis II, partly as a response to the Napoleonic threat. Allowing for the difficulties in summarizing the Holy Roman Empire - which parts of a fluid thousand-year history do you select? - it was generally a loose confederation of many smaller, almost independent, territories, with little desire to vastly expand across Europe. It wasnt considered the first at this point, but a follow-up to the Roman Empire of the classical world; indeed Charlemagne was meant to be a new Roman leader. The Second Reich: The German Empire (1871 - 1918) The dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire, combined with a growing feeling of German nationalism, led to repeated attempts at unifying the multitude of German territories before a single state was created almost solely by the will of Otto von Bismarck, aided by the military skills of Moltke. Between 1862 and 1871, this great Prussian politician used a combination of persuasion, strategy, skill, and outright warfare to create a German Empire dominated by Prussia, and ruled by the Kaiser (who had very little to do with the creation of the empire he would rule). This new state, the Kaiserreich, grew to dominate European politics at the close of the 19th and start of the 20th centuries. In 1918, after defeat in the Great War, a popular revolution forced the Kaiser into abdication and exile; a republic was then declared. This second German Empire was largely the opposite of the Holy Roman, despite having the Kaiser as a similar imperial figurehead: a centralized and authoritarian state whi ch, after the dismissal of Bismarck in 1890, maintained an aggressive foreign policy. Bismarck was one of the geniuses of European history, in no small part because he knew when to stop. The Second Reich fell when it was ruled by people who didnt. The Third Reich: Nazi Germany (1933 - 1945) In 1933, President Paul von Hindenburg appointed Adolf Hitler as Chancellor of the German State, which, at that point, had been a democracy. Dictatorial powers and sweeping changes soon followed, as democracy disappeared and the country militarized. The Third Reich was to have been a vastly extended German Empire, expunged of minorities and lasting for a thousand years, but it was removed in 1945 by a combined force of allied nations, which included Britain, France, Russia, and the US. The Nazi state proved to be dictatorial and expansionist, with goals of ethnic purity that formed a stark contrast to the first reichs broad assortment of peoples and places. A Complication When using the standard definition of the term, The Holy Roman, Kaiserreich, and Nazi states were certainly reichs, and you can see how they might have been tied together in the minds of 1930s Germans: from Charlemagne to the Kaiser to Hitler. But youd be right to also ask, how connected were they, really? Indeed, the phrase three reichs refers to something more than simply three empires. Specifically, it refers to the concept of three empires of German history. This might not seem a great distinction, but its a vital one when it comes to our understanding of modern Germany and what happened before and as that nation evolved. Three Reichs of German History? The history of modern Germany is often summarized as being three reichs and three democracies. This is broadly correct, as modern Germany did indeed evolve out of a series of three empires - as described above - interspersed with forms of democracy; however, this does not automatically make the institutions German. While The First Reich is a useful name for historians and students, applying it to the Holy Roman Empire is largely anachronistic. The imperial title and office of the Holy Roman Emperor drew, originally and in part, on the traditions of the Roman Empire, considering itself as an inheritor, not as the first. Indeed, it is highly debatable at what point, if ever, the Holy Roman Empire became a German body. Despite a near continuous core of land in northern central Europe, with a growing national identity, the reich extended into many of the modern surrounding territories, contained a mix of peoples, and was dominated for centuries by a dynasty of emperors commonly associated with Austria. To consider the Holy Roman Empire as solely German, rather than an institution within which there was a considerable German element, might be to lose some of this reichs character, nature, and importance. Conversely, the Kaiserreich was a German state - with an evolving German identity - that partly defined itself in relation to the Holy Roman Empire. The Nazi Reich was also built around one particular concept of being German; indeed, this latter reich certainly considered itself a descendant of the Holy Roman and German Empires, taking the title third, to follow them. Three Different Reichs The summaries given above may be very brief, but they are enough to show how these three empires were very different types of state; the temptation for historians has been to try and find some sort of linked progression from one to another. Comparisons between the Holy Roman Empire and the Kaiserreich began before this latter state was even formed. Historians and politicians of the mid 19th century theorized an ideal state, the Machtstaat, a centralized, authoritarian and militarized power state (Wilson, The Holy Roman Empire, Macmillan, 1999). This was, in part, a reaction to what they considered weaknesses in the old, fragmented, empire. The Prussian-led unification was welcomed by some as the creation of this Machtstaat, a strong German empire which focused around a new emperor, the Kaiser. However, some historians began to project this unification back into both the 18th century and the Holy Roman Empire, finding a long history of Prussian intervention when Germans were threatene d. Different again were the actions of some scholars in the aftermath of the Second World War, when attempts to understand how the conflict occurred led to the three reichs being seen as an inevitable progression through increasingly authoritarian and militarized governments. Modern Use An understanding of the nature  and relationship of these three reichs is necessary for more than historical study. Despite a claim in the ​Chambers Dictionary of World History that The term [Reich] is no longer used (Dictionary of World History, ed. Lenman and Anderson, Chambers, 1993), politicians and others are fond of describing modern Germany, and even the European union, as a fourth Reich. They almost always use the term negatively, looking to the Nazis and the Kaiser rather than the Holy Roman Empire, which might be a far better analogy for the current EU. Clearly, there is room for many differing opinions on the three German reichs, and historical parallels are still being drawn with this term today.
